I believe that most people involved with manufacturing know that a skilled workforce gap is one of the top concerns of manufacturers. You might even be experiencing this challenge in your own manufacturing business. This is not an easy problem to tackle. However, there are resources available to you.
The first step in filling your workforce openings is recruitment. Here are some free resources that can assist you in proper recruiting that can help you attract the right person for your open position:
Ensure your company’s job description is accurate and detailed to attract viable candidates.
1) O-NET OnLine , is the nation’s primary source of occupational information offering a database of necessary tasks, skills and recommended education/credentials to perform any occupation in the United States. Visit to create a new job description or update an existing description to better reflect your company’s requirements. O-NET OnLine includes additional occupation information and is a recommended resource.
2) CareerOneStop, is another online resource providing occupational information through career profiles. The easy to use online format allows employers to explore career clusters and details of specific occupations including projected employment and forecasts, labor market information and typical wages at national, state or city levels. CareerOneStop is also able to connect your company to your local American Job Center for customized, resident solutions, including job boards.
