HR Planning for Year-End 2018
2019 is approaching quickly. As we move towards the end of 2018, there are some considerations that you should think about when it comes to Human Resources.
Some of the items that you should focus on are:
- Benefits Plans
- Handbook Updates
- Review HR Processes
- Plan Next Year’s Calendar
Benefit Plans: This is an opportunity to review your benefit plan design. Are you considering any add-ons to your plan? What are your employer costs? When and how should you implement open enrollment? This is the time to make any changes and create awareness with your employees. Benefits can play a key role with employee retention.
Handbook Updates: Often, over the course of a year, company objectives or policies can change. Employment laws also change. Updating your handbook consistently every fall will allow you to get a running start at the next year. Make sure to have employees acknowledge receipt of the updated handbook.
HR Processes: This is a good time to review internal processes to ensure that your processes follow new employment regulations. It is also a good time to ensure that any process changes over the year have been officially updated. Have there been new training initiatives that are now standard? Has your new hire onboarding process changed? Are all of your employees' required paperwork and documents completed and filed appropriately?
Plan Next Year's Calendar: As your company's 2019 corporate strategies and objectives are being determined, it is smart to correlate Human Resources' strategies and objectives to support the corporate initiatives. Annual events, benefits compliance and new HR initiatives can be planned and communicated in advance.
