Rotary Brush Manufacturer Successfully Consolidates Two Plants

THE MANUFACTURER
United Rotary Brush Corporation (URB) brings over 80 years of combined experience in rotary broom design, manufacturing, and sales. The company consistently sets the industry standard for quality, value, and service. Headquartered in Olathe, Kansas, URB employs approximately 200 people. Their world-class manufacturing teams are strategically located to meet regional needs, ensuring consistent product performance, quality, and availability. URB delivers exceptional value in rotary brooms and engineered brushes, with customer satisfaction as the top priority. Clients receive courteous, prompt, and knowledgeable service.

THE SITUATION

URB faced a complex challenge: consolidating two manufacturing facilities into a single location after the leases for both buildings ended. The plant move from Lenexa to Olathe, Kansas, required a detailed, tactical strategic plan and flawless execution. The Director of Supply Chain Management turned to Kansas Manufacturing Solutions (KMS) for expertise, insight, and oversight. URB needed an experienced advisor to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and develop a comprehensive project management plan for the relocation.

THE SOLUTION

KMS focused on delivering the project on time, under budget, and within scope. They provided expert project management oversight, helping URB avoid scope creep and stay focused on critical goals. KMS developed a detailed project charter and plan, tracked costs, facilitated meetings, set and managed expectations, and coordinated communications with key stakeholders and external vendors. Their oversight ensured all relocation activities stayed on schedule and aligned with URB’s objectives.

THE RESULTS

  • Cost Savings: URB saved $1,200,000 through building consolidation and other operational efficiencies.
  • Training Investment: URB invested $10,000 to provide new hire training following the plant relocation.

THE CONCLUSION

"We could not have made this move without KMS involvement and expertise. In the end, this project became a non-event."
